Newborn Found During A Game Of Hide and Seek

A 6-year-old girl playing hide-and-seek with her grandmother found a newborn baby girl abandoned in a vacant lot next to her home.

Lilliana Williams-Rodriguez told her grandmother she had found a doll in the bushes.

But Thelma Williams, 55, who has six children, knew right away it wasn’t a doll. She called 911.

The baby was taken to University Hospital with a fever but was expected to recover.

Police believe the baby was born an hour or two before she was discovered, her umbilical cord was still attached.

Thelma got a white dress to cover the baby. She, her daughter, and her daughter’s friend, held and cradled the baby until firefighters arrived to take her to the hospital.

“She was crying really loud and moving her arms and legs so I knew she was real healthy still. So that was a blessing,” said Timothy Pfaff, another neighbor who helped tend to the infant.

I will NEVER be able to understand how a mom can leave her baby after carrying them for 40 weeks.I am always thankful for the times that I read that someone was able to find the baby before something horrible happened to them.

Disposable Diaper Breaks Baby’s Fall And Saves His Life

An 18-month-old Brazilian Toddler can thank his disposable diaper for saving his life after he fell from a third-floor apartment window.

Caua Felipe Massaneiro survived a 30-foot fall because his diaper snagged on a security spike embedded in the concrete wall around his apartment building in the northeastern Brazilian city of Recife.

The boy dangled from the spike for a moment, then “the diaper opened and the baby fell to the ground, but at a much slower speed,” a police officer said. “The diaper obviously lessened the impact of the fall and saved the baby’s life.”

“It was a miracle,” said the officer who declined to be identified because she was not authorized to speak to the press. “He could also have been killed by one of the spikes.”

The toddler was treated for minor fractures at an nearby hospital, where spokesman Gilberto Tenorio said he was in stable condition.

A local newspaper quoted Caua’s father, 23-year-old Alexandre Cesar Massaneiro as saying that his son climbed onto a sofa underneath the window he fell from –

“something he had never done before.”

“It wasn’t the diaper that saved him,” Massaneiro told the newspaper. “It was God.”

CPSC Urges Consumers To Stop Using Simplicity 3-in-1 and 4-in-1 Convertible “Close-Sleeper” Models

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is urging parents and caregivers to stop using convertible “close-sleeper/bedside sleeper” bassinets manufactured by Simplicity Inc., of Reading, Pa. CPSC has learned that on August 21, 2008, a 5-month-old girl from Shawnee, Kan. was strangled to death when she became entrapped between the bassinet’s metal bars. This is the second strangulation death CPSC has learned of in the co-sleeper bassinets. On September 29, 2007, a 4-month-old girl from Noel, Mo. became entrapped in the metal bars of the bassinet and died.

CPSC is issuing this safety alert because SFCA Inc., the company which purchased all of Simplicity Inc.’s assets at public auction in April 2008, has refused to cooperate with the government and recall the products. SFCA maintains that it is not responsible for products previously manufactured by Simplicity Inc.

The Simplicity 3-in-1 and 4-in-1 convertible bassinets contain metal bars spaced farther apart than 2 3/8 inches, which is the maximum distance allowed under the federal crib safety standard. The metal bars are covered by an adjustable fabric flap which is attached by velcro. The fabric is folded down when the bassinet is converted into a bed-side co-sleeping position. If the velcro is not properly re-secured when the flap is adjusted, an infant can slip through the opening and become entrapped in the metal bars and suffocate. This warning does not cover bassinets produced in recent months that have fabric permanently attached over the lower bar.

Due to the serious hazard these bassinets pose to babies, CPSC urges all consumers to share this safety warning with day care centers, consignment stores, family and friends to ensure that no child is placed to sleep in a Simplicity convertible bassinet covered by this warning.

Brash Ad For Nanny Claims That ‘My kids are a pain’

When someone is looking for help, they sometimes sugarcoat the position or the situation. This is apparently not the case in Manhattan.

In an unusually honest ad for a live-in nanny, Rebecca Land Soodak, a mother of four wrote, “My kids are a pain,” in her August 19th advertisement on Craigslist.

She went on to say, “If you cannot multitask, or communicate without being passive aggressive, don’t even bother replying.”

Even though the ad gets better with the following excerpts, a 25-year-old University of Virginia graduate, committed to take care of Rubin, 12; Ellis, 9; and Shay and Cassie, both 6.

“I can be a tad difficult to work for. I’m loud, pushy and while I used to think we paid well, I am no longer sure.”

“If you are fundamentally unhappy with your life, you will be more unhappy if you take this job, so do us all a favor and get some treatment or move to the Rockies, but do not apply for employment with us.”

“Also, if you suspect all wealthy women are frivolous, we are not for you.”

“I have all sorts of theories on how to stack my dishwasher, and if you are judgmental about Ritalin for ADHD, or think such things are caused by too much sugar, again, deal-break city.”

While I respect that this mom would like the right match for her family, I think that the way she speaks in this ad is condescending. It is very sad to hear that she thinks her kids are a pain.SOURCE
