Kelly Rutherfords Talks To Pregnancy Magazine

Gossip Girl’s Kelly Rutherford gets the cover of this month’s issue of Pregnancy Magazine.

The actress talks to the magazine about her birth plan, motherhood and preparing Hermes for his new sister.

Here are some highlights:

How are you doing?

I’m doing good, I’m doing really well. Since we’ve been in New York, I’ve been working and my tummy’s getting big. She’s movin’ around a lot in there. I’m excited to get back to LA and have the last few months off before I give birth. That will be nice. So I’ll focus on that.

I’ll be done at the end of March and then I can go back to LA and get everything ready for the baby and then I don’t have to come back until July, the baby’s due the first week of June and then I’ll go back to work some time in July. So that will give me enough time to rest and regroup and all of that.

What’s your plan for the birth?

I’ll probably have my mom there and Hermes will be close by and I’ll get a baby nurse too. And I haven’t had, I don’t know if I’m going to do a doula this time, I probably will. I usually labor at home, I’m very close to where I give birth, the hospital and my doctor is so lovely he usually comes to the house and checks on me and everything. It just depends on how this one goes. With Hermes it was a little bit longer, I labored at home a long time before I even went into the hospital and I just try to do it as naturally as possible and be as comfortable as possible. You think you can prepare, but nothing can prepare you for the first time you give birth for that experience because it’s just so extraordinary. So at least now I know a little bit more about what goes on, so I’m excited.

I’ll probably have a doula. I had a doula with Hermes and she was so helpful through the process and I’ll probably call her again when I get back to LA and see if she’s available. Cause it just helps, I think no matter who’s there by your side whether it’s your mother, your husband, whoever, there’s something nice about having that neutral party because they can help and keep everyone else around you together. And they know what’s going on, especially if you’re like me and you kind of want to do a lot at home, it’s nice to have someone that’s knowledgable around.

Does Hermes know what he’s in for?

He does, he’s in and out of it. Sometimes he gets it and he’s into talking about it and sometimes he’s like, “Let’s not talk about that yet.” So we’ll see, I think he’ll be a great older brother. He loves to explain things, so I’m sure he’ll have fun explaining to her how things are, how things work. And I just plan on including him in everything and that’s what my mom did with me and my brother, and I have a great relationship—I was an older sister—so I kind of know and she just really encouraged me to help and be a part of it. And I still do, I’m still probably too much in my brother’s business!

What’s your favorite thing about motherhood?

The smell. The smell thing is huge. The first thing I have to do when I see him is smell him. I just have smell him and kiss him and hold him. It’s kind of t hose instinctual things I guess or just seeing him do something new. Now he’s making sentences and he wants to see everything and point everything and show me what it is. It’s like rediscovering the world again.

What’s your biggest challenge as a mother?

The most challenging thing for me is not to worry. Because there are so many things you think about and worry about and I think it’s natural. And I talk to my girlfriends and they all do it, so I think, “OK, it’s not just me.” Cause sometimes you think it’s just me, I’m just overly worried about things. You want to do the right thing. There’s always an element of you want to do the right thing, am I doing the right thing? I just really try to follow my own instincts and say okay, at least if I follow my own instincts one way or the other I can be accountable for it.

Jon Gosselin Tackles More Cheating Allegations

Reality star Jon Gosselin is firing back at new reports that he was cheating while his wife Kate was across the country promoting her new book.

The latest controversy came after the busy dad was seen leaving a bar at 2 a.m. with a mystery woman and without his wedding band.

“Like most people, I have male and female friends and I’m not going to end my friendships just because I’m on TV,” he says in a statement. “However, being out with them late at night showed poor judgment on my part. What makes me sick is that my careless behavior has put my family in this uncomfortable position. My family is the most important thing in my life and it kills me that these allegations have hurt them.”

The Gosselins, who are raising 8-year-old twins and 4-year-old sextuplets, have dealt with similar allegations in the past. In February, Jon was spotted hanging out with a couple of female college students from Juniata College, located near his hometown in Pennsylvania.

While the world condemned him, a College student who was at the bar defended Jon by saying,

“He was very well-behaved, a gentleman. He talked more about his wife than his kids. He was very friendly, very approachable.”

Shortly after the controversy, the couple admitted that raising their children in public has been stressful for their marriage.

“Kate’s career is taking off and I’m a bit lost,” Jon admitted. “This struggle has definitely put some tension in our marriage.”

I feel bad for Jon because he’s the one that is always getting a tough rap. Everyone goes out sometimes and has a few drinks. Chances are his friend pool has gotten smaller since the kids arrived and the show started.

Swine Flu And Your Baby or Young Child

In the last few days the Swine Flu fears have been put front and center as the dangerous virus travels worldwide.

Children are at the highest risk of mortality if affected with the Swine Flu. Symptoms may be difficult to recognize, but it is crucial that you are aware of signs of the Swine Flu in order to increase the likelihood of a positive outcome if your child is infected with the virus. If your child is unable to speak, it may be hard to recognize symptoms of Swine Flu infection. This flu virus is most dangerous in the weakest of individuals including young children. There are some indicators you can look for to ensure that you recognize Swine Flu symptoms that require emergency care in your baby or young child before it is too late.

EHOW has this list of symptoms for parents to look for:

  • Flu Symptoms – If your child has any flu-like symptoms, it may be the Swine flu. The symptoms of this virus are like many others. Monitor their symptoms and look for a high fever over 101 degrees following a cold. Worsening cough is also a sign of Swine Flu. If you are treating your child for flu, and their cough worsens, it is a symptom of the virus.
  • Look for a Rash – Look for a rash that accompanies the fever. This is an indication of Swine Flu infection. The child may also have a blue color to their skin. This indicates a lack of oxygen and requires immediate emergency care.
  • Stops Drinking – If your child quits drinking fluids do not hesitate to rush them to the emergency room. Dehydration is a killer for young children. In addition, if they have explosive diarrhea or vomiting you should seek immediate emergency treatment.
  • Breathing Problems – If they appear to be breathing quickly or having any shortness of breath, get them help quickly. The faster you get emergency help in this situation, the more likely they will suffer no adverse affects.
  • Body Aches – If they act as if they are in pain when you hold them, or try to wriggle away because they appear uncomfortable, it could indicate severe body pain. Get them to a treatment facility immediately. This is an indication of a Swine Flu virus infection.
  • Flat Affect – If they are not maintaining eye contact, or appear flat in affectation this is a warning sign of severe viral infection. Get to an emergency facility.
  • Will Not Wake Up – Finally, if you are unable to wake your child, call an ambulance immediately. Do not hesitate in this situation. Swine Flu is a deadly virus and can be treated with antiviral medications such as Tamiflu so getting your child treated immediately can save your child’s life. The Swine Flu epidemic is likely to get worse before it gets better and it is important to be aware of symptoms of the virus that may require emergency care.

The best way to avoid getting swine flu is to

  • avoid sick people
  • stay home if you become ill
  • cover your coughs and sneezes
  • WASH YOUR HANDS frequently – you don’t need to use antibacterial soap, just use any soap and wash for at least 20 seconds. The is most important to do when you come in from being our and before you eat.
  • avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth

If you want to know where the swine flu is being found. Here is a map of reported Swine Flu cases.

  • Purple marker is confirmed or probable
  • Pink marker is suspect
  • Yellow marker is negative
  • Fatal cases have no dot

Looking For A Jogging Stroller? We Compare 7 Different Options

Now that spring is here it is time to get out and enjoy the nice weather. Many parents do this by combining their exercise regime with their children.

Jogging with your child is a great way to get some fresh air and stay fit.

Like with most baby gear purchases, finding the right jogger can be challenging. You need to consider size, terrain, wheel size and price.

We have put together some information to help you better decide which jogger is right for you.

Here are some jogging stroller facts:

Wheels: A real jogging stroller will have 3 wheels that resemble a bicycle, but they can come in many different sizes

  • 20″ Wheels: frequent running/off-road use. Larger wheels offer superior glide, less resistance and easier curb and bump handling.
  • 16″ Wheels: frequent jogging/walking with light off-road use. A best bet for most users, great glide and usability. They can handle anything from walking around town to running on a dirt path with no problem.
  • 12″ Wheels / Swivel Wheels: walking and around town. They offer superior maneuverability and great improvements over traditional strollers with tiny plastic wheels. They also take up less room in the back of your car when the wheels are left on.

Shocks or Suspension – Shocks are recommended for off-road use and rugged terrain. They aren’t necessary because most manufacturers have accounted for shock absorption when designing and building their strollers. If you will be strolling out on bumpy roads then you should consider shocks.

Alloy vs. Steel Wheels – Currently Aluminum Alloy wheels are the trend. Even though most strollers come standard with them, you may come across Steel wheels when manufacturers are trying to cut costs, and a stroller’s price usually reflects this. Alloy wheels won’t rust, and are a great in climates where rusting is an issue like marine environments, coastal areas, mountain zones, and areas with snow and road salt). Another plus: alloy is lighter in weight.

ASTM Certification – When you see an ASTM Certified* product jogging stroller, you know that it meets the most rigorous standards set by the jogging stroller industry. Undergoing ASTM testing and meeting the set standards is voluntary, done so at the expense of the company, and not required by any government or commercial body. Because ASTM standards are the highest anywhere, any product that meets or exceeds them is certifiable as an item of the highest possible quality.

Tips for the Safe Use of Jogging Strollers:

  • Use a well-built jogger that has good shocks and is not lightweight. Do not substitute a cheaper price for less stability.
  • Consider you child’s age before you buy. It is not advisable to take children under 6 months old out in joggers.
  • Adjust the handlebar to your height before you take the stroller out to insure you are as comfortable (and stable) as possible.
  • Take a practice run or two without the child in the jogger to get a feel for the handling of it and to make sure you can turn and stop it without any trouble. Remember, it will be heavier and carrying something very important; you’ll want to be able to maneuver it easily.
  • Strap your child in with the full harness. You want them as safe as possible and if you have to stop suddenly, you don’t want them to fall out or even get shaken. Also you don’t want them to be able to reach out and get their fingers tangled in the wheels.
  • Never take your hands off the stroller. They are made to need little to no resistance to make them move, so that running with them is easier, but this causes them to move if you let go. Rogue strollers can be very hard to catch and very unsafe for your child.
  • Stick to smooth surfaces if your child is not a year old yet. This will lessen the amount that the child is shaken while running.
  • Be in control of your jogger. Make sure that you are never going so fast that you cannot stop the jogger if needed. Remember, the brake is for parking, not for stopping during a run. It is the runner’s responsibility to use momentum in such away that they can control the jogger.
  • Use your runs to your advantage. If you run right before nap time, the rhythmic sound of you running may put your child to sleep, which can be a nice bonus of your runs.
  • Increase the comfort of your child by shifting them to different positions during the run. This is especially important in very young children who cannot rearrange themselves.
  • Don’t expect your child to sit still for the duration of the run. For toddlers and older, it is a good idea to allow the child to get out and play for a bit during the run, especially if they seem restless. This will increase their enjoyment and comfort on the run.

Another Mom Charged With Drunken Breast Feeding

I am not really sure what is happening with new moms, but another mom has been charged with drunken breast feeding.

Stacey Anvarinia from North Dakota pleaded not guilty a child neglect charge for allegedly breast-feeding her baby while drunk.

While responding to a domestic disturbance call, police officers watched as an “extremely intoxicated “Anvarinia” began breast feeding her infant in front of us,” according to a police incident report.

Since alcohol can pass from mother to child via breast milk, the new mom was arrested for neglecting her six-week-old infant.
