Kid Tested: Moon Dough Barn

As the Summer wears on, I am constantly looking for new ideas to keep my guys entertained.  Enter Spin Master’s Moon Dough!  It arrived last week for my kids to try out and it as been a hit since I opened the box.

This ‘dough’ is unbelievably light, almost like cotton with a constarchy consistency that sits between a marshmallow and old fashioned play dough. Parents will love that it never dries out, is hypo-allergenic and is wheat-free.

The newest set in the Moon Dough collection is a bright red Barn($20). At first I wasn’t sure if there would be enough to keep both kids occupied, but as soon as I opened the bags of dough and let them loose there was more than enough for both to do.

This set took me out of my comfort zone as I traditionally buy toys that don’t make a lot of mess and that can be cleaned up quickly. This is not the case with Moon Dough – especially when you have two rough and tumble boys. There will be a mess, but your kids WILL have fun.

My boys loved this farm. It has a cool four part mould in the barn that spits out perfectly shaped animals for play around the farm. This was my oldest son’s favourite part and it never got old. Her would fill it up, release the lever and wait for his animal to come out, each time saying, “Look mom it’s a Sheep!” or a horse or a chicken or a pig.  Some would come out without feet or heads because he didn’t put in enough dough be he didn’t care. It was magic and as he made them he lined them all up so that they could all graze in the field together.

My youngest spent most of his time filling the other moulds to make hay bales and fences to keep the animals in and help organize the livestock coming out of the barn. Oddly enough they didn’t fight once because they were both so focused on the task at hand.

When it was time for lunch they didn’t want to put the set away and made me keep their ‘animals’ on the counter for play later.

Because the dough does tend to break apart, this set would be perfect for outside on the deck or when grandma is here. And even though I had to get the vacuum out to clean all of the little bits up I will probably get the Pizza shop($15) or Puppy Dog house($15) for them at Christmas because they loved the barn so much.

Apparently my kids aren’t alone.  This barn was already named as a top toy for this upcoming Holiday season by The Entertainer and I won’t be surprised it makes a few other lists in the coming months.

Emily Procter Shows Off Her Bump At Emmys Event

Emily Procter was photographed stopping by the GBK and Tic Tac Gift Lounge on Friday.

This is the first time we have seen the mom-to-be since she announced she is expecting.  The CSI Miami star looked great in a bump hugging navy dress.

The new season of the popular show will start on October 4th.  Look for the producers to hide her growing belly with props as it won’t be written into the script.

This is the first child for Emily and boyfriend Paul Bryan.  He/she is expected to arrive in December.

Featured Review: Valco Joey Seat

Valco has just released a new and improved toddler seat for it’s strollers called the Joey seat. Versions are available for all strollers that take a seat- one for the 3 singles and one for the double. The Joey provides some long awaited improvements on the older model. First and foremost is the seatback height. Instead of the short back that offered nowhere for your child’s head to rest if they fell asleep, the new seatback has been increased to offer a much taller height. It’s still not the same as a full stroller seat, but it’s very well sized for an additional seat for your part time rider. The amount of leg room beneath the seat has been increased as well, as the seat sits much higher on longer legs. This is very nice for the main seat rider who really gets much more room to move around.

I tested the Joey seat on the Quad. The Quad is a fairly compact stroller that has a much smaller footprint than other 3 wheelers. I was a bit concerned that this might make the stroller feel a bit tippy with the tall seat on this more upright stroller, but it was absolutely not a problem. I tried the seat with my 20 pound 8 month old and my 25 pound 23 month old. We went for a very long ride over some pretty bumpy terrain, popped over curbs and even over sidewalks that inclined to the side and the stroller felt perfectly stable. No matter where I went the Quad felt secure with absolutely no tipping. Both children had a turn sitting in the front in the Joey seat and both loved it. My 23 month old didn’t want to go home and loved riding up front. It was just as easy to push with two on board as it was with just my daughter.

Pushing the Quad with the Joey seat was so easy and so much fun for them that we walked much further than I had intended. The seat fit both well and the back of the seat extended above my daughter’s head. The straps adjusted down well enough for her and had plenty of room for her tall 23 month old brother. The straps seem much longer than those on the original model, but that might just be more room created by the taller seatback. With the 45 pound weight limit and more room in the harness, you could use the seat for quite awhile. We have the original seat on our Twin Trimode and my very large 40 pound 3 year old started filling the seat beyond capacity just after he turned two. I had him give the Joey a try as well and he fit just fine. It’s probably not likely that he’ll be riding up there very often, but it is nice to know that he can if needed.

The Joey seat is a great improvement on an already great option for when you need an extra spot for your older child. The seat is easy to put on and take off and you can even fold the stroller with the seat in place. It’s a bit thicker fold, but not by much really. And it’s so convenient to have the option. With 4 children, we love that we can use our Quad as a single or add an extra seat and have a spots everyone on the rare occasions when all 4 need to ride. The Single retails for $80.00 and the Joey for the Twin retails for $100.00. As with the previous model there is an optional canopy. The canopy is also new, so you cannot reuse your old canopy. There is a different canopy for the Single Joey and the twin, but both retail for $40.00. Rain covers are not ready yet, but are expected in mid-October. You can also use the Joey Seat with the Valco Hitchhiker board in place and take three (or 4 on the Twin) along for the ride.

If you’re looking for an option that allows your toddler a spot to ride when needed, this is a terrific choice. Available for the Quad, Matrix, Tri-Mode EX and a second version for the Twin Trimode EX, this offers you such great flexibility and improved comfort and space for your children. If you have three children, especially if you have twins and a toddler, the combination of the Twin Trimode EX with the Joey seat, gives you something that is hard to find anywhere else, 3 seats in the space of a double.

Newlyweds Alicia Keys And Swizz Beatz were spotted getting off a yacht in NYC last night headed to the Rock The Bells concert.

Even though she is about 7 months along, the mom-to-be couldn’t resist jumping on stage and dancing with Lauryn Hill, while her husband and friends watched on.

Two Doctors Suspended For Fighting While Delivering A Mom’s Baby

Two Italian doctors have been suspended after they began throwing punches in the delivery room of an Italian clinic, with the mother and infant in serious condition following complications.

According to an Italian News Agency, the fight broke out as a woman was about to give birth in the Messina Polyclinic in Sicily.

The husband told police that during the heated exchange of words one of the doctors grabbed his colleague by the neck and shoved him into a wall.

This was followed by the other doctor punching a window, which shattered, injuring his hand.

The laboring woman suffered a hemorrhage during the birth and needed to have her uterus removed. The infant suffered two cardiac arrests which caused cerebral damage and was moved into the intensive care unit.

While the clinic said there was no link between the fight and the birth complications, it is very sad that this family has had to deal with this and all of the issues from the birth.  They should have their licences taken away.

An Expectant Rachel Stevens Shops in London

Rachel Stevens was spotted out and about in central London today showing off her bump while running some errands.

Now that Summer is coming to an end the fashionable mom-to-be threw a cardigan over her favorite dress to extend it’s use.  I would too, it’s cute!

The baby, who is due in November, will be a surprise for Rachel and husband Alex Bourne.  She recently said

‘Neither of us mind what we have but most people think that I’m having a girl, but I really don’t know.’
