UPDATE: Nigerian Mom Welcomes Sextuplets

In a sad turn, the young mom that just delivered 6 tiny babies in Nigeria has passed away from complications associated with the delivery.

Ajoke Bello, 32, gave birth to the six babies by Caesarean section operation on Thursday and was initially in a stable condition.

But she developed complications from excessive bleeding at hospital in Sagamu, Ogun State, south-west Nigeria.

The naturally conceived babies – three girls and three boys – were in a stable condition, said medical officials.

The new mom died at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital yesterday morning.

Professor Femi Ajayi, the chairman of the board of the hospital, confirmed her death to the Nigerian Tribune newspaper:

“It was an unfortunate incident.

“The doctors and nurses at the hospital put in their best to ensure that the woman lived.

“She was under close monitoring as the medical team did not leave any stone unturned to ensure that she was alive.”

Charity groups have been making donations for the upkeep of the 6 babies.

This mom also has 2 other children and her husband reportedly ‘fled’ after the news of the sextuplets arrival.

Fame Hasn’t Changed The Gosselins

Even though she had 8 babies in three years, has a television show viewed by 3 million people each week and a best-selling book, Kate Gosselin – mother of twins and sextuplets – insists she is the same person she always was.

“We are the same people and have not changed within ourselves, but our situation in everyday life has changed,” the busy mom recently revealed.

“The fact that we cannot go anywhere without being surrounded by fans — that part is difficult for me and always will be. I am finding, though, that with the release of our first book I am enjoying signing it and seeing the joy on people’s faces as they talk about it,” she continues.

Jon and Kate Gosselins are parents of twins Mady and Cara, 8, and sextuplets Collin, Leah, Joel, Hannah, Aaden and Alexis, 4. The Pennsylvania family became household names through the top-rated TLC show “Jon & Kate Plus Ei8ht,” which airs new episodes at 9 p.m. Mondays.

During a recent interview Kate spoke about her new book Multiple Blessings, which talks of her dramatic pregnancy, long hospital stay and the joy and chaos of bringing the babies home.

“Reliving the very difficult experiences in our lives was difficult when writing the book. But I now know without a doubt that God loves us and will always provide for us. We just need to let go of our control and allow God to have control.”

“Jon & Kate Plus Ei8ht” truly is a reality show. The cameras reveal the chaos of their home, but also the loving, caring and organized environment the couple create.

“Jon is as elated that our story is in print for our children, as am I. He looks at our show as our job, and it has its goods and bads, the same as with any job,” Kate continues

“We are really blessed, because the show allows us to both work from home and at least one parent is here with our kids all the time.”

Byler Sextuplets Update

It has been 7 months since the Byler sextuplets made their grand entrance into the world weighing between 2 pounds, 5 ounces and 3 pounds.

(photo from December, 07)

Boys Brady, Eli, Ryan, Jackson and Charlie and lone girl MacKenzie have all been home since December and out of the spotlight.

Since then, three of them, Charlie, Jackson and Ryan, have been hospitalized a few days for pneumonia. Otherwise, all have been healthy, though Charlie and Jackson still require oxygen. Brady, the heaviest of the bunch, now weighs more than 16 pounds. MacKenzie, the smallest, weighs at least 12 pounds.Brady, Ryan and Eli have rolled over.

“They’re all smiling and laughing, all teething and drooling,” Karoline said.

Karoline and her husband, Ben, 31, have new nicknames for some of the kids. Ryan, once called “the perfect baby,” is now known as “Cryin’ Ryan.”

Brady is called “Melon” because of his big head. Jackson, the “Drama Queen,” is still a mama’s boy. MacKenzie has a smile like the Joker in Batman.

Two nurses work from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. each day.

All six babies and their older sister Zoe made a rare appearance out yesterday when they were baptized.

In order to help out the baptizing Reverend, Ron Aubin and increase the cute factor, each Byler baby wore a white keepsake bib embroidered with the name and date.

It is nice to hear that all of the babies are doing well. It is unfortunate that the site the family created for the babies has been taken down.

We wish the family well!

Oprah Speaks With Jon And Kate Plus 8

Today was a bit chaotic on the Oprah Winfrey show. The talk show host was joined by my favorite TV couple and their 8 children.

Jon and Kate Gosselin, along with their twins, Cara and Mady and sextuplets Hannah, Joel, Leah, Collin, Alexis and Aaden sat down with Oprah to discuss life with two sets of multiples.

Many of you know the family from their TLC show ‘Jon and Kate Plus 8’, which airs every Monday night.

In 2000, Kate gave birth to twin girls, Cara and Mady. Then, the couple decided to try for one more child.

“We got a little more than we bargained for—we got six more,” Kate says. “We’re considered a fertility nightmare.”

At 5 weeks gestation, Kate had a feeling there was more than one baby growing inside of her.

“As soon as they flashed the ultrasound screen, I saw too many circles to count,” she says. “I was thinking, ‘These cannot be babies. There’s too many.’ I instantly went into shock.”

Jon’s reaction:

“He was close to tears, which he’s usually very silent and strong,” Kate says. “I thought, ‘Now we’re really in trouble.’ … It sounds funny now, but at the time, our whole lives just flashed before our eyes.”

Even knowing how draining – emotionally and financially – raising eight children would be but Jon and Kate say they never considered reducing the number of fetuses in the womb.

“When we went in for that [fertility] appointment, I said to them every time, ‘Really be careful with us, because we’re not doing that ever. It’s not for us,'” she says. “Actually, right before that ultrasound, the last thing I said to [the doctor] was, ‘Whatever you’re giving me, we’re taking.'”

On May 10th 2004 at an amazing 30 weeks gestation, in just three minutes the couple welcomed Alexis Faith, weighing 2 pounds, 11.5 ounces, Hannah Joy, 2 pounds, 11 ounces; Aaden Jonathan, 2 pounds 7.5 ounces; Collin Thomas, 3 pounds 0.5 ounces; Leah Hope, 2 pounds 14.8 ounces, and Joel Kevin, 2 pounds 9.7 ounces.

Now that the sextuplets are almost 4, the busy mom spends most of her time cooking healthy, organic meals for her family of 10.

“My day is make a meal, serve a meal, clean up a meal, clean up everything, wipe this one, change that one, deal with this one,” she says

Kate’s day by the numbers:

  • she runs the dishwasher two or three times a day
  • uses about 1,200 paper plates every month
  • do at least two loads a day, with the most being five a day

It took two days, six suitcases and three carry-ons to get the Gosselins from Pennsylvania to Chicago. When they travel, Kate says she fills luggage with treats, blankets, Crayons and toys to keep the kids busy during the flight. “Take tons of food,” she says. “That’s my secret for everything. When they’re cranky, just feed them.”

I love Kate’s no nonsense approach to motherhood. The kids don’t get away with anything in fact the couple says that ”

timeouts are as normal as blinking.”

They may be out of the “terrible 2” phase, but Kate says the sextuplets’ behavior has not improved. In fact, it’s gotten worse. “Actually, 3s are rougher for us than 2s,” she says. “Didn’t you know? Three is the new 2.”

Missouri Couple Loses All Six Babies In High Risk Pregnancy

I am very sad to report that Mandi Jarvis, the mom from Excelsior Springs Missouri, has lost all six of the babies she was carrying.

Mandi miscarried three babies on Sunday and the other three today, said Carol Graham, founder and CEO of the Liberty Women’s Clinic.Carol said she had spent time with Eric and Mandi Jarvis over the past few days, and said the family is trying to heal emotionally.

The babies were to be the couple’s first. After having troubles conceiving, Mandi and Eric turned to injections of Follistim, an ovulation-inducing drug.

Early on in the pregnancy an hCG test revealed abnormally high numbers, so her doctor determined she was having multiples.

It wasn’t until week seven that the couple found out that they were expecting sextuplets.

Mandi had been on bed rest in the hospital for the last 4 weeks. She was in her 22nd week.

We wish the couple well, many people have them in their prayers.

The couple had been trying to conceive for a few years and She was on medication to stimulate her ovulation cycle when she became pregnant.

The new dad , a young lawyer, said he and his wife are delighted. “But we will not have any more babies; this one time is enough.”

Could you imagine thinking you were having one and getting six??? I see a diaper drive in this family’s future.

Missouri Couple Expecting Sextuplets

I have to say that this has been the year of the Mega Multiples. We have personally reported on 4 families that were expecting sextuplets just this year, with 2 of the families only getting to bring home a fraction of the babies they were expecting.

Like many of the other couple that we have covered, Mandi and Eric Jarvis, who live in Excelsior Springs, were having a difficult time conceiving so they turned to injections of Follistim, an ovulation-inducing drug.

The chances are highest with Follistim of having a single child or twins, they said.

“We were only truly wanting one,” Eric Jarvis said. “Two was OK, too. That’s a long way from six.” Her first hCG test revealed abnormally high numbers, so her doctor determined she was having multiples. An hCG test measures the amount of the hormone human chorionic gonadotropin in blood or urine to see whether a woman is pregnant.

“He said, ‘I bet the barn it’s just three,’” Mandi Jarvis said. “He owes me a barn and a farm.”

At week four, she saw blood. Terrified, she rushed to the doctor, not knowing if a miscarriage might mean losing one or all of them. A practitioner told her she had indeed lost one but still had two.

At week five, Mandi’s mother visited the doctor with her, the only time Eric Jarvis missed. He won’t do that again, he said. That’s when they found five.

After learning they were having five babies, Mandi applied for a program through the Clay County Public Health Center, that was looking for pregnant “models” to train technicians on performing ultrasounds.

When she called she was told that the women’s clinic was full for the free ultrasound screening and even had a waiting list. Once they learned that she was expecting 5 babies they made an exception and brought her in right away.

At the Liberty Women’s Clinic, Mandi had her ultrasound at week seven. Martha Howell, a registered diagnostic medical sonographer, was there training the clinic’s nurses when they saw a “flutter” at the top of her uterus after finding five.“It was an emotional and once-in-a-lifetime experience to be present when the sixth baby was discovered,” said Carol Graham, the women’s clinic CEO.

Currently in her 18th week, Mandi will be admitted to Overland Park Regional Medical Center at 20 weeks for the remainder of her pregnancy. The average gestation of a sextuplet pregnancy is 29.1 weeks; she would like to make it to 32. Jenny Masche made it to 32 weeks gestation, while Karoline Byler delivered her sextuplets this September just before 29 weeks. Not all sextuplet pregnancies have happy endings. Sadly, Brianna Morrison delivered all six of her babies at just 22 weeks gestation and only one of them survived.

We wish this mom well and hope that she gets 10 good weeks in on bedrest.

The Bylers All Together

The newly re-united Byler sextuplets pose for a photo together on the family couch. Complete with monitor wires and matching outfits, the six little ducks look adorable cuddling into one another.

The photo, taken by daddy Ben features (l-r) Charlie Craig, Jackson Robert, Brady Christopher, MacKenzie Margaret, Eli Benjamin and Ryan Patrick

Karoline talks to The St.Petersburg Times about the babies, who were born Sept. 1.

Even though they aren’t even 3 months old yet, their personalities are already emerging.

“Jackson’s the drama queen,” joked Karoline. “He cries constantly and wants to be cuddled.”

Ryan cries when he’s hungry, but once fed, “he never makes a peep.” MacKenzie is also “really mellow,” while Eli is “big and strong and eats a lot.” Then there’s Brady, the whiner. “He has a really loud scream; it sounds like he’s hoarse.”

The Morrison’s Talk About Losing Their 5 Babies For The First Time

For the first time since delivering her sextuplets, Brianna Morrison has spoken about the sadness of losing 5 babies and their delight in having Sylas home.

Ryan and Brianna Morrison welcomed 6 babies on June 10th at just 22 weeks gestation. At birth, the sextuplets ranged in size from 11 ounces and 1 pound, 3 ounces. Sadly one by the babies started to pass away until there was only one left – Sylas.

He is home now and the family conducted their homecoming interview with Minnesota television station WCCO.

Brianna talked about each baby and their personality saying that Lucia was the first born, her name meant light. She had the most sparkly eyes that would just capture you when you looked at her.

Bennett was a mamma’s boy.

Tryg was their all American boy. The nurse gave him a red, white and blue stocking cap. He passed away on Flag Day. Captain America they called him.

Lincoln was playfully renamed ‘linky wink’, she always thought he would be a poet, contemplate the things of God, and really know the heart of God.

Cadence was known as the sparkly baby. Every time the had an ultrasound, Cadence was just dancing, all the time. Her name means melody. And her middle name means beautiful. So beautiful melody. She was the smallest baby.

Brianna then tuns her attention to Sylas. He is cooing loudly and she calls him her man of many words. They hold him a lot and wonder if they’re spoiling him, but decide it’s okay because he’s been through a lot.

She says that this is not the way they wanted it to be, but that this is what god wanted and they trust him because he is good. She also believes that they were given Sylas because they needed him. Without him she doesn’t know how she would be able to get out of bed in the morning.

Lucia Soldani Joins Her Brothers At Home for Thanksgiving

Today, Brian and Gracie Soldani had many things to be thankful for.

The couple welcomed sextuplets: Bruno, Santino, Joely, Lucia, Bailey and Briana on September 12 of this year.

Three of the babies were born alive and sadly, three were not.

The two boys came home the week of Halloween leaving their sister in the hospital to grow and learn how to manage without oxygen.

Lucia made a her surprise arrival home on Wednesday in time for turkey day, after she passed all of her tests.

Gracie wrote on her blog that as she was cooking in her newly finished kitchen, listening to her two boys cry, when she received a call from her husband – delivering the good news.

She continued writing:

When Brian and Lucia came in we put all three kids together for some family time and a huge silence came over the room. It was what is going to be the first of many sad feelings of what was supposed to be that isn’t. I felt the loss of my others girls as did Brian. No words, but our emotion spoke louder than words. We have to remember that we do have three here, and three guardian angels looking out for Bruno, Santino and Lucia always.

The fun has just begun. Let’s hope that friends and family are able to help them make an easy adjustment.
