The California Department of Public Health, which determined the penalty, cited the prominent Los Angeles hospital in January after an investigation found “multiple failures by the facility to adhere to established policies and procedures for safe medication use.”
“The hospitals take this extremely seriously,” state deputy director Kathleen Billingsley told the Los Angeles Times Thursday. Cedars was one of 11 facilities fined for various violations, she said.
The twins, Thomas and Zoe Quaid, were at Cedars on Nov. 18 being treated for staph infections when they were given 1,000-times—10,000 units per milliliter rather than 10—the proper dosage of heparin, an anticlotting drug regularly used to flush out intravenous lines.

Us Magazine is reporting that Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony are back at home with their twins!
The new mom was released from North Shore University Hospital on New York’s Long Island yesterday, her obstetrician, Dr. Anita Sadaty, told the New York Post.
The babies, who arrived Friday morning, were born a good size for twins. The little girl weighed in at 5-pounds, 7-ounces and the little boy 6 pounds. They were born 11 minutes apart.
Their names have not been released yet.

Charlotte Mullineux had been pregnant with twins when at seven weeks she miscarried one of them. At that time the ultrasound tech noticed that there was a ‘blob’ in her uterus, but thought it was just an egg that hadn’t dissipated yet.
Two weeks later, at her follow up, it was discovered that the ‘blob’ had grown into a second baby that was conceived 3 weeks after the first baby.
It was explained that Charlotte had a rare case of superfetation, where the body carries on releasing more eggs for fertilization after a pregnancy has already started. It meant that, technically, she could have become pregnant again each month during her pregnancy.
The expectant mom had issues throughout her pregnancy causing the babies to arrive early. Thomas was born at 6.32pm on May 4, weighing 5lb 6oz, and Harriet at 6.33pm weighing 4lb 1oz.
The ‘twins’ to stay in the special care nursery for 3 weeks.
As to be expected with babies that are not identical twins, Thomas is described as “tall and lanky” and “very laid-back”, while Harriet is “short and stumpy” and “interested in everything”.
These two babies are not being called twins because they were conceived at different times. I referred to them as twins because they were born on the same day.

Twins who were separated at birth married each other without knowing that they were brother and sister, a peer has claimed.
The couple were adopted as babies by different families, and neither was told that they had a twin. They met, fell in love and got married before discovering that they were blood relatives.
The British couple was granted an annulment at a special hearing at the High Court in London. It was found the marriage had never been valid.
Politicians in the UK are now calling for changes to the The Human Fertilization and Embryology Bill.
The Bill contains no requirement for the birth certificates of children conceived by egg or sperm donations to include this fact.
Even though the twins in question were not conceived with assistance , it was argued that their experience demonstrated the need to strengthen a child’s right to know the identity of his or her biological parents.
I personally think that they should take stronger measures to make sure that multiples or even siblings not be separated during adoption.

St. Vincent’s Elementary School has three sets of twins in kindergarten, two sets of twins in second grade, three sets of twins in third grade and a set of twins in fifth, sixth and 8th grades.
Kay Glastetter, St. Vincent’s Principal: “Some of the students are in separate rooms, by parent’s choices, which makes it a little easier. When we get them all together, it’s quite a challenge.”
Teachers really have to pay attention as some of the twins, like Julia and Taylor. They look alike all the way down, or up, to their hair ribbons. Cramer and Conner are pretty easy to tell apart, but if you’re in doubt, check out the shoes- Cramer’s are red, Conner’s white. We’re not done yet. Student teachers Jennifer and Michelle not only look alike, they have the same job, share a car and a love of children.
If you think that the multiples in this story are unusual, the Grange School in Hartford UK has 20 sets of twins in attendance.

Today will mark a very big day for Betty Richards and Jenny Pelmore.
They have beaten odds of 700million to one to reach their hundredth birthday!!
Born half and hour apart in Manchester on New Year’s Day 1908, the pair have barely been apart since and now live within a mile from each other in Cornwall.
The pair have survived five different monarchs, still both enjoy driving and even took up Spanish lessons at the age of 97 to keep their minds active.
Mrs Pelmore is an accomplished painter whilst her sister only recently stopped keeping bees.
The rules they live by:
‘Don’t give your age a second thought. Enjoy other people’s company and live your life. Live in the moment.’
