Bindi Irwin Launches Toy Line

Yesterday, Bindi Irwin, along with her little brother Bob and mom Terri, launched a new Environmentally aware toy line at FAO Schwartz.

The full product range of products that carry Bindi’s wildlife messages of nature preservation and conservation are highlighted by the fully articulating Bindi doll and various Bindi Australia Zoo playsets, plush, and bendables.

Wild Republic, the nature themed toy company, incorporated Bindi’s personal favorite animals into the full range of products. The young conservationist has given each animal a name and each of the animal friends has a home at Australia Zoo. The toy company also took extra measures to create some of the most authentic and original plush animals, including a Mountain Brushtail Possum, Common Wombat, and Dingo, and, of course, an Eastern Grey Kangaroo, Saltwater Crocodile and Koala.

I had the chance to speak with Terri yesterday and was very impressed by her passion for this cause. The family spends a great deal of time traveling the globe creating awareness about endangered species. In fact many of the toys in Bindi’s new line were chosen to highlight the growing number of animals being added to the endangered list each year.

Feel Good Factor: All of profits received from the sale of these toys are divided up between the many animal groups the family is involved with.

The new products are currently slated to hit store shelves nationwide this Fall. Please visit Wild Republic’s website for more information.

UPDATE: Eight-limbed Lakshmi Tatma Takes First Step

The Indian girl born with eight limbs, Lakshmi Tatma, has recovered from major surgery and taken her first steps with the aid of a baby-walker.

The two-year-old underwent a 27-hour operation in November to remove the two arms and two legs of her parasitic twin.

The operation was carried out after Dr Sharan Patil, a orthopaedic surgeon from Bangalore, took an interest in Lakshmi’s case after hearing that her parents, who each earned just 50p a day as labourers, had been turned away from government hospitals.

Mrs Tatma told a UK News Channel:

“When she was put in the baby walker she started pushing herself backwards with her legs and burst into laughter with a huge grin on her face. She loves it.

Every day since she left hospital she’s managed to do more and more things that were impossible before.

The change in Lakshmi’s life is amazing. It’s hard to believe that three months ago she couldn’t move or even crawl, we thought she would never have a normal life.”

It is nice to see that a family, who is from a remote village in the northern state of Bihar, were able to have their daughter looked after by such amazing medical professionals.
