Breast Feeding Mom Asked To Stop By School Officials

During a lunch visit with her daughter, Alicia Norris thought nothing of breast feeding her son, 19 month Tahoma until she was approached by a teacher and asked to stop.

The teacher told her she could not breast-feed her baby on school property.

Later the same day, she said, school principal Wayne Whitney also approached her, even though she was not nursing at the time – and again asked her not to breast-feed at the school.

As Alicia sees it, a school of all places should be family-friendly and this one seemed anything but. “I felt degraded,” she said of the Oct. 29 incident. “I’ve been nursing three children for nine years and I’ve never felt like that before.”

Florida law states that women can breast-feed anywhere in public or private as long as they are in that place legally.

The statute states: “A mother may breast-feed her baby in any location, public or private, where the mother is otherwise authorized to be, irrespective of whether the nipple of the mother’s breast is uncovered during or incidental to the breast-feeding.”

Principal Whitney later looked into Florida law on breast-feeding, and found he was off-base. He has since told staff members that breast-feeding is allowed at school.

“A couple teachers expressed their concerns,” said Whitney. “I asked her not to do it in front of small children.”

Alicia has been back to the school and nursed her son about four times since the incident, but has chosen to do so at a more secluded table behind the kindergarten playground.

It’s really surprising that a place that is supposed to be kid friendly is anything but. I am glad that this mom called the school board on this principal. Hopefully it will help educate others who don’t know Florida’s or their owns states laws… Related Articles:

Jennifer Lopez’ Doctors On High Alert

This may be the first time I have ever read that a star is concerned about kidnap attempts following the birth of their baby(s?)

It is being reported that staff at Long Island’s North Shore Medical Centre took part in a Code Pink security drill on Friday, which involves locking down the hospital if a baby goes missing.

Jennifer and husband Marc are believed to be expecting their twins this week.

One friend said: “Jennifer has spoken so much about how excited she is about the birth that anyone who is considering a kidnapping knows how far she would be willing to go to get her babies back.””The hospital will be on high alert when Jennifer comes in to give birth, and have practiced the Code Pink drill just in case they need to put it into practice.”

A representative for the hospital confirmed they had practiced the drill, but said the timing was “coincidental”.

Russian Parents Welcome Quints Home

After being in the hospital for 3 months, the Russian parents of the quints born in November , are excited to finally have them home.

Last week, Tatiana was the last of the Russian couple’s quintuplets to be given a clean bill of health by doctors at Oxford’s John Radcliffe Hospital and allowed to join her sisters at the family’s temporary home nearby.

The family is originally from Russia, but chose to deliver their 5 babies at John Radcliffe in order to increase their chances of survival.

Elizaveta, Alexandra, Nadezhda, Tatiana and Varvara – are now getting to know one another after spending the months following their birth apart.

The babies, who all came home separately, have now been re-united after Tatiana needed to be re hospitalized after coming down with an infection.

“At first, we had two babies at home, then three, then four, and we thought we would have five – but one went back to hospital, which was disappointing,” said Varvara, a 29-year-old music teacher.

“That’s why we are so excited to have them all together now. They take a lot of work, and we are very tired, but they are worth it.

“We have been looking forward to taking care of them ourselves for so long.

“We’re enjoying seeing how they respond to one another – they seem very content now that they are all together.

“And we’re discovering that each of them has her own distinct personality. They bring us so much joy.”
