Product Review: The Quick Zip Sheet

Reviewed by Cari

I was recently given the opportunity to review the Quick Zip Sheet made by Clouds and Stars, Inc($34.99). Included in my package were the Quick Zip Crib Sheet Set, the Flat Mattress Pad, and the Portable Play Yard Sheet. Upon receiving the products, I read through the information pamphlet and instructions, then promptly ripped the old crib sheet off the mattress and got to work!

As I have mentioned before, my four-month-old daughter tends to spit up… a lot. That’s the reason I was so excited to try these sheets. Although our nursery is decorated with theme bedding and accessories that have very earthy tones, I had no problem putting the non-matching pink gingham sheet set in her crib (other colours are available that will fit in with most decors).

The initial (first time only) installation of the zipper base was a little more challenging than I anticipated. It’s like putting a fitted sheet on a mattress upside down. I suggest doing it with a partner to limit your frustration. However, once I wrestled it on, everything else was easy. The flat mattress pad fit perfectly under the edges of the zipper base, ensuring that it would remain flat as my little girl wriggles around in her sleep. It is waterproof (great for the spitter!) and made with 200-thread count 100% cotton (very comfy!).

The next step was to zip on the zipper sheet, which fit snugly eliminating any concerns about loose bedding. The zipper is covered by the high-quality fabric and can be tucked away so little ones can’t play with it. Then came the moment of truth… after my daughter’s first nap on the sheets (and inevitable spit-up), I zipped the sheet off the base and tossed it into the washing machine in a matter of seconds without having to remove bumpers (if we were still using them) or struggle with a mattress! Genius! I strongly suggest purchasing additional zipper sheets so there is always a clean one while the others are in the wash.

The Portable Play Yard Sheet ($16.99) was incredibly easy to use. It slides over the play yard mattress like a pillowcase and is held closed by Velcro for a snug and secure fit. The top of the sheet is quilted and made with the same quality 200 thread-count, 100% cotton as the Zipper Sheet. This will come in very handy when we have overnight visitors with little ones.

The Quick Zip Sheet Set has completely lived up to my expectations and I plan to give them as baby shower gifts in the future. I’m also interested in the Twin Quick Zip as I have a three-year-old who has just stopped wearing diapers at night (ugh). This is a great product for anyone who has ever had to change crib sheets… and as a mother who does it daily, I highly recommend them.

Nova Scotia Couple Welcomes Rare Quadruplets

I am always amazed at the unbelievable things that happen during conception.

A mom in Nova Scotia has given birth to a set of quadruplets that are made up of a set of identical boys and a set of identical girls.

The babies, which were conceived through IVF, are a rare medical phenomenon because only two embryos were injected and both split to develop into identical twins. Chances of that happening are about one in 70 million.

“I’ve never heard of it before,” said Vincer, who’s seen three sets of quadruplets delivered at the hospital. “To have two implanted embryos both succeed and then both split that would have to be very, very uncommon.”

The boys are said to be struggling with respiratory problems and other issues that come with being born so prematurely. Sadly, at least one is suffering from a significant premature breathing condition.

“He has very major respiratory failure at the moment,” Vincer, a neonatologist, told reporters as the babies’ parents looked on. “He’s still critically ill and we have our concerns about survival.”

The quads arrived at 29 weeks gestation, all weighing around three pounds each. At birth, 3 need to be vented. The two boys remain hooked up to special high-frequency ventilators because of their respiratory problems.

The couple say that they are eager to get their babies home to Greenwood, N.S., but understand that it will likely be months before any of them are able to leave.Christa MacKinnon, 29, said she had held only one of the babies for the first time Wednesday night, adding that there are so many tubes and lines of tape feeding into them that they’re difficult to see.

Guam Mom Welcomes 14lb 5oz Baby!

Janice Perez has been the talk of the town and the hospital since giving birth to her eighth baby on Monday.

Jayvin Jon Perez arrived weighing 14 pounds 5 ounces.

“As far as anyone can remember, this is the biggest baby ever born here at Guam Memorial,” Janice’s physician, Dr. F. Christopher Bieling, said Monday morning after the delivery.

The new mom told reporters that

“People were always asking me, ‘Are you going to have twins? Are you sure?’ It sure felt like twins.”

Any baby heavier than 9 pounds 4 ounces is considered to have Macrosomia, commonly called Big Baby Syndrome. An ultrasound predicted that Jayvin would be weigh about 11 pounds, which is already an alarming size.

At birth, Jayvin was so large that it was a tight squeeze even with the surgery.

The baby is currently in an incubator in the hospital nursery on oxygen. He is but in good condition, but surrounded by babies half his size.

“First, he’s cranky. He does not like being in that thing because he doesn’t fit,” Perez said. “Second — I can already tell — he loves to eat.”

“He’s a big little boy,” Perez said. “He’s a miracle baby.”
