New Orleans Hospital Delivers Triplets and Quadruplets Within 24-hour Period

If you read our site on a regular basis, you will know that multiples births are definitely on the rise over the last few years. This year alone we have reported on 4 sets of sextuplets, 6 sets of quints, 1 sets of identical quads and 3 sets of identical triplets.

So I guess it doesn’t surprise me to read that a New Orleans hospital delivered a set of quads and a set of triplets in a 24 hour period.

A New Orleans couple welcomed quadruplets: four girls — one set of identical twins and one set of fraternal twins, and less than 24 hours earlier, doctors delivered a set of triplets: three boys.

“It’s been a busy 24 hours in the NICU,” exclaims Dr. Harley Ginsberg. “What makes this even more exciting is that the Quads birth was the first set of quadruplets delivered at Ochsner Medical Center in nearly five years.” Ginsberg goes on to say that “mothers and babies are doing well thanks to the multi-disciplinary team of specialists and sub-specialists at Ochsner.”

The quads were welcomed beginning at 6:24 p.m. Tuesday by parents Matt and Alisha Murphy.

The babies weighed between 3 pounds 6 oz. and 4 pounds 3 ounces and are named Molly, Elizabeth, Margaret and Carolyn.

The triplets were welcomed beginning at 6:45 a.m. Tuesday by parents George and Pamela Kocke.

The boys weighed between 4 pounds 2.5 ounces and 4 pounds 10 oz. and are named Linus, Oliver and Miles. They are the first babies for the Kocke family.

Just 2 weeks ago, we reported that a Wisconsin Doctor delivered 4 sets of twins in 24 hours.

I guess two is the new one… or four is the new two.

RECALLS: RC2 The First Years™ Children’s Feeding Seats Due to Fall Hazard

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and RC2 are voluntarily issuing a recall on about 100,000 The First Years Newborn-to-Toddler Reclining Feeding Seats because the restraining straps can pull out of the waist strap slots, posing a fall hazard to young children.

The First Years Newborn-to-Toddler Reclining Feeding Seat can be adjusted between reclining and upright positions. The seat includes a tray, reversible cushion and a three-point safety belt. One side of the seat cushion has a sewn-in label at the top which says “the first years by Learning Curve.” This recall includes all feeding seats except those with an “R” stamped inside a raised circle located on the far left and right of the back of the seatback or those with waist strap slots that are nine inches apart.

RECALL: RC2 Potty Training Seats Due to Violation of Lead Paint Standard

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and RC2 Corp have announced the recall of about 160,000 The First Years 3-in-1 Flush and Sounds Potty Seats.

While no injuries have been reported, the decorative plaque inserted into the back of the potty seat could have orange paint that contains excessive levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard.

The recall involves the First Years 3-in-1 Flush and Sounds potty training seats. Each seat has either a yellow chair with a green removable seat and a purple lift out-pot or a blue chair with a white removable seat and green lift out-pot. The words “100 Acre Wood” are molded on the chair back. The plaque inserted into the back of the seat contains molded Winnie the Pooh and Tigger characters.

Parents are being asked to contact RC2 to receive a permanent clear protective cover that covers the plaque. The unit can still be used as a potty seat.

Consumer Contact: For additional information, contact RC2 toll-free at (866) 725-4407 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. CT Monday through Friday or visit the firm’s Web site at www.recalls.rc2.com

RECALL: Stokke Recalls Xplory Stroller After Front Wheels Come Loose

Stokke has released the following press release explaining the particulars of their newest recall for the Xplory.

We have become aware that some of the STOKKE® XPLORY® strollers produced before June 30, 2006 over time may develop reduction in the strength of the front wheel bolts.

The reduction in strength may cause the bolt to loosen during use and as a consequence the front wheels may loosen from the stroller chassis.

The only models affected have serial numbers from 1 to 27295 and 27698 to 28097.

Even though the strength reduction has been reported for a few strollers only which have been extensively used, we wish to inspect all strollers with the serial numbers stated above.

If you own a STOKKE® XPLORY® stroller with grey handles, please check the serial number as shown in the picture above or ask the shop where you bought the product to confirm the place of the serial number on your product.

STOKKE® XPLORY® strollers equipped with white handles are of a newer version and NOT affected by this announcement.

Parents are asked to visit the stokke site for more information on the recall.

Indonesian Woman Gives Birth to 15.2-Pound Baby

It is being reported that a mom has given birth to Indonesia’s heaviest ever baby, a boy weighing 15.2 pounds, hospital staff announced yesterday.

The baby was born at a private maternity clinic on the outskirts of the Indonesian capital Jakarta, a nurse on duty there told AFP.

“He was born at about 4:30 pm on Monday, but because of respiratory problems, the baby was taken to Fatmawati hospital a few hours later,” the nurse said.

The 37-year-old mother had gestational diabetes, which puts babies at risk of being heavier than normal.

This has been a good year for big babies. Super Tonio was born in February weighing 14.5lbs, Evan Dougherty in May weighing 14.5lbs and in September a Russian mom gave birth to a 17lb little girl.

Chinese Baby Weighs 40lbs at 8 Months Old

We have been struggling for the last few months to get our 2 year old past 20lbs, so you can only imagine my surprise when I read about an eight-month-old baby boy in Jilin, Northeast China, that has tipped the scales at over 40lbs.

This little man is so plush that he is not able to sit or crawl yet and he breast feeds approximately 20 times a day because him mom thinks that he is hungry.

I am not sure that this guys parents understand that this is not good for him. Learning bad eating habits this early could set this baby up for a lifetime of obesity.
