Britney Loses Custody Of Kids

It has been reported today that a judge ordered that Britney Spears must hand over custody of her sons to ex-husband Kevin Federline this week “until further order of the court.”

L.A. Superior Court Commissioner Scott Gordon gave no reasons in his written decision, issued after lawyers met with him in a private session requested by Federline’s lawyer. The ruling says that Federline gets custody starting Wednesday.

But the ruling came after the filing of misdemeanor charges against Spears – hit-and-run and driving without a valid California license – and claims by her ex-bodyguard that she used drugs and is a danger to her children, Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 1.

Gordon also previously found that Spears is a “habitual, frequent and continuous” user of alcohol and controlled substances, and ordered her to submit to random twice-weekly testing.

Just hours after the judge ordered the pop star to submit to drug testing, Britney was seen out partying until the wee hours of the morning.

I can’t imagine that this impressed him, paired with the huge amount of press that her ex-bodyguard, Tony is getting while telling his story about the 3 months he was employed by her.

Being a parent isn’t all about being photographed with your kids and dressing them up cute.

It is about being there when they are sick, teaching them how to be productive members of society and nurturing who they will be when they get older.

Maybe she should tour an NICU and see parents sitting by their child’s isolettes for hours praying for them to live just ONE MORE DAY.

She has so much to be thankful for, yet she continues to just throw it all away…

FDA Still Warning Parents About Cough Syrup

In August the FDA issued a strong warning to parents about using cough syrup for babies that are under 2.

A final decision will be made next week, but U.S. Food and Drug Administration reviewers have recommended that over-the-counter cough and cold medicines that contain decongestants and antihistamines should come with new instructions saying they are not recommended for very young children.

FDA reviewers said reports submitted to the agency “suggest that the use of prescription and (over-the-counter) cough and cold medication in younger children, particularly in children less than 2 years of age, could result in fatal overdoses.”

The product labels “should include prominent language to describe the risk of overdose in children,” the FDA staff said in a summary posted on the agency’s Web site.

They also recommended dropping the statement on many over-the-counter cough and cold remedies urging parents to “consult a physician” about use of decongestants in children under 2 years of age and antihistamines in children under 6 years of age.

“We suggest that the revised wording state that dosing is not recommended in these age groups due to the lack of evidence of efficacy and safety concerns,” the FDA staff said.

The agency received 54 reports of deaths with decongestants and 69 with antihistamines from 1969 through 2006, reviewers said. Most were in children younger than 2. Overdose and “drug toxicity” were commonly reported in those cases.

The FDA should start with the fact that they make cough syrup sweet and yummy like candy. It is a medicine, kids shouldn’t want to drink it…Oh, and while your changing things – can you please ask them to remove the crummy red dye. Why does everything have to contain deep red dye?

Petunia Pickle Bottom’s Upscale Diaper Bag

I am in love with Petunia Pickle Bottom’s new upscale line of Diaper bags called Cake.

I had the opportunity to see the bag up close at ABC and was impressed by the durable fabric, versatility and functionality.

This bag can be carried 4 ways:

  • Hobo/Clutch – Made out of coordinating tweed fabric studded with Cake signature rivets
  • Shoulder Strap– Adjustable strap constructed of tweed with antique brass hardware.
  • Backpack—Shoulder strap converts to the backpack by threading through internal bag loops.
  • Valet Stroller Clips—Stroller clips that match the Cake collection feature antique brass clips and Cake signature rivets & a monogrammed flannel organizer pouch.

The bag has a built in change pad, 3 organizational pockets for wipe case, diapers and ointments. There are 4 pockets for bottles, 4 organizational pockets and a front patch pocket with magnetic snap and easy “reach and grab” cell phone pocket. All this and a monogrammed dust cover (love it!!).

Many times you will find a diaper bag that is nice looking, but it will sometimes lack in features or storage. No detail has been left out with the ‘Society Satchel’.

It is a splurge $325, but a steal compared to the $545 Burberry wants or $935 Gucci wants…
