Scientists Introduce The ‘Super Carrot’

If you’re all for genetically modified food that might give you and added bit of calcium than the newly unveiled ‘super carrot’ is for you.

Researchers in Texas say they’ve developed a so-called ‘super’ carrot that helps people absorb more calcium. They hope by adding the vegetable to a normal diet, it could help ward off conditions such as brittle bone disease and osteoporosis.

“If you eat a serving of the modified carrot, you’d absorb 41 percent more calcium than from a regular carrot,” said Dr. Jay Morris, a post doctorate researcher at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston and lead writer on the finding, in a news release.

“We believe that if this technology is applied to a large number of different fruits and vegetables, that would have an even greater impact on preventing osteoporosis,” he said

This carrot still has a few clinical trials to go through before you will see it in your local grocery store.

While I like that it will be easier to increase you child’s calcium intake at the same time as boosting their Vitamin C, I hate the fact that ‘clinical trials’ are needed on a vegetable before it can be sold to the public.

When this ‘super carrot’ is finally available at your grocery store, will you buy it?

Graco’s Sweetpeace: A Newborn Soothing Center

While I was in Vegas in September for the ABC trade show I saw this neat unit, but passed it by thinking it was just another baby rocker.
Little did I know, but this unique looking unit was a beautifully designed calming center for babies weighing 5.5 lbs to 25 lbs.

Described as a soothing center, the Sweetpeace motion rocker can help to nurture and soothe your baby through five of your baby’s senses. It has a motion with 4 seating positions that create 4 distinct sensations. Not only does motion effect your infant but also the 3- recline positions and 6-speeds create options for your little one.

Graco thought of almost everything when they designed this unit.
It plays 4 different types of music, is compatible with your Graco infant seat and connects to your MP3 player.

A 5-point harness keeps your baby in comfortably and a toy bar with mirror keeps them occupied.

If you are expecting a baby and looking for a swing or bouncer, this soothing center is worth a look.

It is reasonably priced at $169.99 at Gracobaby.com

Johnny Depp Donates 2 Million Dollars To Hospital

Yesterday was a good day for Great Ormond Street Hospital in London.

The Daily Mail is reporting that Johnny Depp secretly visited the hospital to donate 2 million dollars of his own money to thank staff for saving his daughter’s life.

He arrived unexpectedly at the London children’s hospital where eight-year-old Lily-Rose was treated last year when her kidneys failed.

While his donation was generous, the star’s gratefullness doesn’t end there.

Last week he invited five Great Ormond Street doctors and nurses to the party for the London premiere of his film Sweeney Todd.

And on November 29, unknown to the public, Johnny spent four hours at the hospital telling bedtime stories to patients dressed as Captain Jack Sparrow after having his Pirates Of The Caribbean costume flown over from Los Angeles.

Last March, Lily-Rose spent nine days at Great Ormond Street after E.coli poisoning led to the failure of her kidneys.

Johnny has said that:

“It was the most frightening thing we have ever been through. It was hell.”

“But the magic is that she pulled through beautifully. Great Ormond Street was terrific, a great hospital.”

Disney, which made the Pirates Of The Caribbean films, will also today donate £10million to Great Ormond Street, which needs to raise £170million in five years to re-develop two-thirds of the hospital site.

Singapore Couple Welcomes Identical Triplets

Having a set of triplets is no longer rare because so many sets are conceived via fertility treatments.

A couple in Singapore was surprised when an ultrasound revealed they were having 3 babies instead of one and then even more surprised when they found out that the babies were identical.

Triplets are, in themselves, rare, but 30-year-old Gladys Lim’s babies are further up the rarity stakes: They are identical, and were conceived naturally to boot.

Most triplets are the result of fertility treatments, in which two or more fertilised eggs are planted in the womb.

Ms Lim and her husband Joey Chiew’s three sons, however, came from a single egg which split into two. One of the two then divided again, to make three babies.

The couple, who have a 16-month-old daughter, were ‘shocked and surprised’ when told, eight weeks into the pregnancy, that they were expecting triplets.

I believe the chances of this happening are something crazy like 1 on 200,000,000. These parents need to buy a lottery ticket!!Related Articles:
