Third Sextuplet No Longer With Us

It gives me great sadness to report that the Morrison 6 is down to 3.

A third boy, Lincoln Sean Morrison, died Friday. Two of his brothers, Tryg and Bennet, died earlier in the week.

The four boys and two girls were born last Sunday about four and a half months early in a Minneapolis hospital. Doctors had advised the couple to selectively reduce the number of viable foetuses to two, but they declined.

Parents Ryan and Brianna Morrison released a statement saying it has been “a difficult week” for them, and thanked everyone for their prayers and support.

“We continue to trust in the Lord and are hopeful for a good outcome for Cadence, Lucia and Sylas,” the statement said.

Hospital officials said no further information would be released.

A baby born at 22 weeks is very underdeveloped. Their eyes have just formed and will not open for 4-6 weeks yet. Their tiny nostrils are still closed and only with help from the mom’s body does the baby’s liver start to break down bilirubin, which has to be monitored closely for high levels to prevent brain damage.

Some babies have survived at this gestation, but not enough to have strong statistics on. The surviving three babies have a very long tough road ahead of them.

I hope that the bad news is behind them and that Ryan and Brianna get to bring their remaining three babies home.

Toddler Served Margarita Instead of Apple Juice

Kim Mayorga was confused when her 2-year-old started making funny faces and pushing away the apple juice he had ordered at Applebee’s. The explanation came when she opened the lid of the sippy cup and was hit by the smell of tequila and Triple Sec.

The restaurant staff accidentally gave Julian Mayorga a margarita Monday. He grew drowsy and started vomiting a few hours later and was rushed to the hospital.

“I wasn’t going to make a big deal about it,” the mother told the Contra Costa Times on Thursday, “but then he got sick.”

The apple juice and margarita mix were stored in identical plastic bottles, and the manager mistakenly grabbed the margarita container to pour the boy’s drink, said Randy Tei, vice president for Apple Bay East Inc., which owns the franchise restaurant and nine other Applebee’s in the San Francisco Bay area.

The Mayorgas will be reimbursed for their medical bills, and Tei said the franchise group’s restaurants will no longer serve apple juice and margaritas in similar containers.

After working in the hospitality business for most of my life I know that this mistake is almost impossible. I tend to bring everything I need, even my own water, so that I am know what my son is getting. This mom will probably do the same thing from now on.

David Hasselhoff Gets Full Custody of Children

In a strange turn of events, David Hasselhoff has been awarded full custody of his girls.

Superior Court Judge Mark Juhas ruled that Hasselhoff’s ex-wife, Pamela Bach, could visit the teen-aged girls on alternate weekends and on Wednesday nights for dinner, says lawyer Melvin S. Goldsman.

“If, down the road, the kids are comfortable seeing her more, Mr. Hasselhoff has said he will let his children see their mother as often as they want to,” Goldsman says.

The decision marked a dramatic turnaround for the actor, who had been blocked temporarily from seeing Taylor-Ann, 17, and Hayley, 14, after a drunken video of the actor surfaced in May. Hasselhoff regained his parental rights when he agreed to alcohol testing, sources say.

The former Baywatch star and now a judge on America’s Got Talent left the courtroom smiling, telling reporters it was “a beautiful day to go to the beach.”

“The judge said today, ‘Enough – enough is enough, these children have been through enough,'” Hasselhoff said.

Bach didn’t comment, but was seen crying in the courthouse hallway.

Hasselhoff, 54, filed for divorce from Bach, 42, in January 2006 after 16 years of marriage; she filed her own divorce claim the following day. The former couple have battled over finances and custody of their daughters ever since.

This is unusual because judges usually favour keeping the kids with their mother unless she is insanely unfit??? I am sure Pamela is a great mom, I just wonder what happened to turn everything so far the other way.

Warning to Parents About the Dangers of Soy Milk for Babies

I found this post at Joseph Mercola’s Website. It is an important topic to cover because not enough is know about the dangers of feeding soy milk to babies.

I am not a doctor, so I have used the information from Dr. Mercola’s site to create awareness for new moms.

Two vegan parents have been convicted of murder and given life sentences in prison for starving their 6-week-old baby to death.

Though the parents may have thought they were doing the right thing, they were feeding their child a completely inadequate combination of soy milk and apple juice along with a small, but insufficient, amount of breast milk.

Now, soy experts are again calling for clear and proper warning labels on all soy milk products — indicating that it should NEVER be used in place of infant formula — following this and several other babies’ hospitalizations or deaths under similar circumstances.

Soy infant formula, which currently constitutes 25 percent of the bottle-fed market, is required by law to be heavily supplemented with vitamins, minerals, amino acids and fatty acids that are not found in brands of soy milk. Though it does not pose an immediate danger to babies, as is the case with soy milk, the Israeli Health Ministry, French Food Agency, British Dietetic Associations and other government bodies have warned parents and pediatricians that it poses health risks to the developing baby and should only be used as a last resort.

Dr. Mercola’s Comment:

Soy milk does not contain the nutrients that children need for their growth. In fact, the idea that soy milk is healthy, in and of itself, is a complete myth. Feeding your baby soy milk will lead to severe vitamin, mineral, fatty acid and amino acid deficiencies that can clearly be deadly.

Soy infant formula is not a healthy alternative; it is one of the worst foods you can give your child.

Soy formula poses some serious health hazards, including:

• ADD/ADHD, brain damage, and altered behavior due to very high levels of manganese
• Thyroid disease and interference with proper reproductive development due to elevated isoflavone levels; a soy-fed baby receives the equivalent of five birth control pills’ worth of estrogen every day, and they have isoflavone levels 13,000 to 22,000 times higher than normal
• Speech disturbances and reduced brain function, as it contains more than 1,000 percent more aluminum than conventional milk-based formulas

Please, never, ever feed your baby (or any child under the age of 18) soy infant formula or soy milk. And remember, this includes all organic varieties as well.

What you should feed your babies is the food nature intended: breast milk. Studies have also shown that babies who are breastfed exclusively have better functioning immune systems, as well as added protection against:

• Heart disease
• Immune system cancers such as lymphoma
• Asthma and allergies
• Respiratory infections
• Eczema
• Type 1 and type 2 diabetes

If for some reason breast feeding is absolutely not an option, you should take a look at this recipe for a healthy infant formula.
