Naomi Watts And Liev Shreiber Welcome Baby Boy

Congratulations to Naomi Watts and Liev Shreiber on the safe arrival of their new baby boy. Alexander Pete Schreiber arrived this morning weighing a healthy 8 pounds, 4 ounces and measuring 22 1/2 inches long.

He is the first baby for both parents who met on the set of The Painted Veil.

The news of Watts’ pregnancy unintentionally slipped through her fingers back in February, when a press release circulated by Italian design house Escada—which provided Watts, 38, with her Academy Award duds—prematurely spilled the beans.

“The Escada gown sets off her most precious new asset—the baby she is expecting with longtime boyfriend Liev Schreiber,” read the statement sent to various media outlets, including E!, on Oscar eve.

Watts didn’t address the news on the red carpet, but Schreiber confirmed their expectant status the following night during an appearance on Late Night with Conan O’Brien.

The duo celebrated their impending arrival last week with a coed baby shower at their Los Angeles home,

We wish them the best. I am sure that they will be great parents!!!

BLUEST EYES EVER!!

ET ONLINE has some exclusive shots of Dannielynn and daddy Larry Birkhead.

“Every day she does something new, and now she’s sharing her bottle with me,” Larry tells our own MARK STEINES. “So if I say, ‘Give daddy a drink,’ she’ll toss it over her shoulder. It’s cool being a dad.”

The former boyfriend of the late Anna Nicole and the father of her baby came out to the big Hollywood premiere of ‘The Bourne Ultimatum’ Wednesday night with his nephew, and said that the requirements of being a new dad are almost the same as being a super spy.

“If Matt Damon drops out of the next movie, maybe I’ll be available,” he jokes. “I’ve been punched and kicked and slapped by my daughter, so I’m in defense mode. She’s using me as a teething ring.”

But there was one hitch on the way to the red carpet: “She actually spit up on my jacket I was going to wear, so I had to take it off and do a quick change.”

Dannielynn is going to have her first birthday in September, and Larry says he’s weighing his options for the special day.

Those eyes look like they’ve been photoshopped, but you know after looking at her daddy that they haven’t been…

Military Bases See Baby Boom

Different events throughout the year will trigger an increase in birth rates.

A couple of years a go when I was on bedrest in the hospital I was in awe of the number of pregnant moms delivering babies at our hospital. For four nights in a row there were up to 15 deliveries each evening. When I asked the nurse what the reasoning was behind the boom and she said that because there was no hockey on the previous winter they had seen an increase in births.

Many military couples at Fort Campbell celebrated when about 20,000 soldiers with the 101st Airborne Division came home last fall, because the military hospital here is now seeing a baby boom.

The hospital expects to deliver 210 babies a month soon, nearly twice the usual number of deliveries, and more are expected at other nearby hospitals in Tennessee and Kentucky.

“You go around town and there are these big bellies everywhere. It’s kind of fun to have all the babies around,” said Kerry Luckey, who lives in Clarksville, near this Army post.

A temporary increase in births is not uncommon after soldiers return, but the boom this year is the biggest the post has seen in decades, said Lt. Col. Diane Adams, chief of women’s health at Blanchfield Army Community Hospital.

The base is seeing “a lot more folks with family on the mind when they returned this time around,” Adams said.

About 19,000 soldiers returned to Fort Stewart, Ga., in the first months of 2006, and the hospital there saw a baby boom nine months later, delivering more than 100 babies a month, compared with 76 per month the previous year. Fort Hood in Texas saw deliveries peak at 289 in March 2006, well above the 213 average.

Lt. Trena Buggs, a labor and delivery nurse at Blanchfield, got pregnant herself not long after her husband, a Special Forces soldier, returned from Iraq in early 2006, and she gave birth in May. She knew what to expect when the 101st Airborne came back between August and December of last year.

“We knew that any time the soldiers are deployed, we knew the one thing they liked to do best when they come home is get a little bit of loving,” she said.

In many cases, the father was back in Iraq by the time the baby arrived; many soldiers have heard their children’s first cries via cell phone.

In the Fort Campbell hospital’s busy maternity waiting room, many new mothers do not even seem to notice when Brahms’ lullaby starts playing over the public address system — the signal that another baby has just been born.

Adams hears the lullaby about seven times a day.

“We should be close to 2,300 for the year,” she said. “Last year we delivered 1,352, to give you a comparison.”

The baby boom at Fort Campbell is expected to continue through December, which also happens to be when three units from the 101st Airborne are set to return to Iraq. Another three units are scheduled to leave for Afghanistan early next year.

About 20 percent of the new mothers at Fort Campbell are active-duty soldiers themselves, Adams said.

New mothers are exempt from deployment for four months. But after that, husband-and-wife soldiers have to arrange for child care if they are both sent overseas. Often, relatives or close friends take care of the children.

Kimora Lee Launches New Clothing Line For Her Two Princesses

Kimora Lee Simmons along with her daughters Ming and Aoki debuted a collection of what looks like a girls tween clothing line.?

Ming and Aoki always escort their mom down the runway to close each Baby Phat show. I guess their mom figured that they should have their own line to model or an event to be the centre of attention at.

Introducing Ava Priestly

New parents Jason Priestley and wife Naomi Lowde-Priestley introduce their new baby to the world on the cover of Us magazine this week.

It wasn’t the storybook beginning the new parents had hoped. Four days after the July 2 birth, 7-pound, 4-ounce Ava cried all night.

Luckily for the Priestleys, Ava has adjusted wonderfully to her new home and the first-time parents couldn’t be happier. “She is very mellow,” Naomi gushes.

It helps that Priestley, 37, has gone from 90210 to Nanny 911! “You gotta be involved,” says Priestley, whom his wife, 31, describes as a “very hands-on” dad. “The other day I had her on my chest and she peed on me. But babies are like bunny rabbits. When they pee on you, it means they like you.”

Priestley adds, “The first time I saw her, time stood still. It took my breath away.”

2 More of Masche Sextuplets Go Home

More good new for the Masche family. Parents Jenny and Brian were able to bring two more of their sextuplets home yesterday, leaving just two babies in the NICU.

Savannah and Bailey Masche left Phoenix Children’s Hospital yesterday and join Blake and Grant who are already home.

A hospital spokesperson says Cole is still being monitored after having surgery earlier this week.

Molly is doing well and will probably get to go home soon, say officials.

The family is staying with relatives in the Valley until the last of the babies are released.

‘Every Baby Has a Story’ March Of Dimes Contest

“Every Baby Has a Story,” a new nationwide contest for a user-generated video public service ad (PSA) with a grand prize of $5,000 and possible placement on TV stations, was announced today by the March of Dimes. “The March of Dimes celebrates all babies, those born healthy and those who need our help to survive,” says Doug Staples, Senior Vice President, Strategic Marketing and Communications, at the March of Dimes. “And we want to give more people the chance to get involved in our efforts. That’s why we’re inviting the public to help us create and choose a 60-second TV spot that tells a compelling story about babies.”

Go to http://marchofdimes.com/videocontest for Official Rules and eligibility criteria and to learn more about the PSA contest. Entries should interpret the theme “Every Baby Has a Story” to raise awareness of a serious health issue like premature birth, or lack of affordable health care coverage for pregnant women and babies, or to tell a dramatic personal experience of a baby.

Unfortunately, this contest is only open to US residents, which is crappy because I know many Canadian moms who could contribute some VERY interesting stories to the pile.

For rules and specifications on how to enter please visit the March Of Dimes website.

I hope to be able to post some of the entries on the site, if a link is available.

Good Luck to all of the moms out there!! The March of Dimes is right…Every baby does have a story and I look forward to watching some of the submissions.
